LOW-TECH deals with low-technology approaches and how they can redefine contemporary understandings of materiality and design practice within interaction design. The main research problem addresses the overreliance on high-tech paradigms that often obscure the material, experiential, and pedagogical dimensions of design. Simultaneously, the use of lower-cost and less complex technologies and materials can generate more sustainable proposals that promote a critical perspective among designers.
Approach
We follow a Research-through-Design methodology, combining design processes, material experimentation, pedagogical case studies, and qualitative analysis, grounded by literature review, case analysis, and interviews with design professionals.
Results
Expected results include comprehensive design guidelines, a digital book with the research synthesis, and a gallery of low-tech interaction design prototypes. All contributing to a critical and sustainable reframing of interaction design’s material and educational foundations.
